When I think of my style the words subtle, minimal or quiet are not words that would come to mind. I’ve always been drawn to fashions that are bold, interesting and just plain fun.
At the end of the day, fashion isn’t that serious.I love to mix things up and am constantly taking inspiration from my everyday life. Whether it’s walking down a street in Soho or watching a saturated sunset at the beach. All of these things help shape my creativity and of course, my style. I love seeing other’s take risks that I would never think of myself.
This time of year can be tricky because I’m not quite yet ready to break out the chunky (+heavy) sweaters, but I’m also not about to prance around in my daisy dukes. But in true, “Hayley” fashion I do love to incorporate summer elements into my looks for as long as I possibly can!
One way I like to transition my style is by mixing prints. There’s something so exciting about dreaming up a look that doesn’t match, but somehow just…works.
Take for instance this look I styled. I paired a super girly off the shoulder floral top with fitted gingham pants. The uber flowy sleeves paired with the fitted bottoms made for an uber unique (+ flattering) silhouette.
Although a fairly typical top for me to own, I was having a hard time styling this one. It seemed to overwhelm anything I tried it with. Denim skirts, high waisted jeans and even a leather skirt…nothing worked.
I realized that it needed something to match its over the top personality. Enter the gingham pants.
Who knew soft florals and gingham would pair up so nicely to create a super cool graphic look.
I paired this outfit with my favorite metallic booties, but I also loved it with platform sneakers!
Below I’ve linked a few more ideas for mixing prints. Oh and I’m dying to hear/see what you pairings you’ve come up with. Camo + embroidery, florals + stripes or plaid + tie die?! Whatever the combo make sure to snap a pic and tag me (@hay.b) on Instagram or leave me a comment below!
